Home During A Move

As professional movers, it’s our responsibility to ensure that every item leaves your old home and reaches the new home intact without causing any damage. When it comes to minimizing damage, we have to take care not only of the items that we have to move but also of our client’s houses.

Protecting your new home, therefore, becomes one of the top priorities. So, how do we get the job done without damaging your new home? Let’s find out

Different Ways We Protect Your New Home During a Move

1.  The Door

Placing a door stopper on the front door of your new home eases our work. Keeping the doorway always open, allows us to move in and out of the house without banging into it. Not only that, it saves us from any extra effort since movers won’t have to set the items down and then open the door every time they had to bring something inside the house. You will also not have to worry about the wind blowing and closing the door while we move the items inside.

2.  Floor Runners

Floor runners are the best when it comes to covering walk ways where the movers will walk while bringing stuff inside your new home. They work exceptionally well to protect your floors from any kind of damage. More importantly, it will help the movers improve their grip on the floor. Since the floor runners have a rubber bottom, it easily clings on to any surface and prevents us from slipping or sliding. You must always ask your professional movers to use floor runners when you are leaving your old home and also when taking stuff inside your new home.

3.  Using felt pads on furniture

Moving is a great time to install some felt pads on the bottoms of your furniture legs. This is help prevent any marks or scratches on your hardwood floor and keeps them looking like new. Having felt pads will also make it easier for you to move furniture around without causing any damage to the floor. They come in variety of sizes and shapes so be sure to get the right ones which best match the furniture you own. You can have the movers install the felt pads once the furniture are placed in your new home.

4.  Placing Curb Ramps

Next up, we have curb ramps attached to the vehicles we use to move your stuff from your old home to your new home. The curb ramps are of various sizes that can be placed outside the new home to make the movement of items more efficient. The ramps make it easier for the movers to load and unload the items from the truck and exert just enough force to get things done. This makes the whole process more productive and takes less time.

5.  Using a Full Assortment of Tools

Lastly, all our movers are equipped with a full assortment of various tools that can be used to move, disconnect, or reconnect furniture or any other item that is required to be move. We are experts at taking things apart and then assembling them at the destination. We have drills, ratchet sets, crescent wrenches, screwdrivers, vice grips, and more.

We enjoy what we do. That’s one of the major reasons why we have customers that stay connected with us and get us more business. Being an industry leader, we have successfully moved houses without causing even an inch of damage. Want to witness our magic in real life? Connect with us today!

The one that asks the right questions is the wisest. This saying seems so true, especially when you are hiring a professional commercial moving company for your business relocation.

Moving a business is not something you accomplish overnight and should be taken very seriously. That’s why we have created a list of top questions you should be asking your commercial moving services before hiring them. Let’s check them out!

Top Questions To Ask Commercial Movers Before Hiring Them

Do They Have a Portfolio You Can Look At?

During the planning phase of your move, you must be in talks with different commercial moving services. This is important because you don’t just want to go with any moving company. You want to take your time to figure out which moving company is best for your business move. Now, the very first thing that you need to ask them is whether or not they have moved a similar company in the past. Do they have enough experience to make the relocation happen with perfection? You must ask them to show their portfolio which will give you a complete idea of their experience. If they don’t show a Portfolio, you must not hire them for the relocation

What is the Estimated Cost of Commercial Move?

The reason why you will want to consult many commercial moving services is that it can help you save a lot of money. Once you have a complete list of what you need to move, the timeline, and your budget, you will be in a better position to take an estimate from the commercial moving services. It is important that you do a pre-assessment of the move so that you have a complete estimate of how much it will cost. While it is important that you save money, you should never compromise with the quality and reputation of the commercial moving company you hire. So, don’t get tempted by a moving company that gives you a significantly lower estimate than others.

How Will They Manage The Move?

The next thing that you need to ask is whether or not the professional commercial moving company will provide a project manager for the move. This is important because as a business owner you cannot keep track of the process all the time. There are many other business operations that you have to focus on and therefore, having a project manager that can work with you will help you make the business move a grand success. The project manager is responsible for discussing the moving options, timelines, and other details. You will not have to contact the moving company every time you have a problem. All you need to do is connect with the project manager and you will take care of the issues.

Do They Provide Installers

This question is important because the dismantling and reassembling of the equipment being moved is crucial to the success of your business relocation. Most moving companies will provide installers that can help you to assemble the employee workstations at the new location. This will definitely increase the efficiency of the move.

Do They Have Their Own Storage Facilities?

If you have just purchased new equipment or furniture, you will not want to put them in your existing office because you will eventually have to move them to the new location. If they say something you find relatable, you must ask your professional moving company if they have their own storage facilities. If there is some time for the move to happen, you can store the equipment at their storage facilities. However, you should make sure the warehouse is government approved.

Over to You

It is important that you take care of your due diligence before hiring a professional moving company. We highly recommend you ask the above-mentioned questions and try getting honest answers from the companies. Have questions? Feel free to put them down in the comments section. We would love to hear from you!

So, you have finally decided to move your office and are now looking to make the move efficiently. Well, you have landed just in the right place because we are going to discuss how you can make your move to a new office an easy one.

We are going to share a complete commercial moving checklist that you can refer to while moving to a new office. So, without any further ado, let’s find out what you need to do to make a perfect move.

Complete Commercial Moving Checklist for Moving to A New Office

  1. The very first thing that you need to do is determine the time frame and the moving schedule so that you can plan the move to perfection.
  2. You just cannot move your office without letting anyone know. It is important that you set a proper communication plan to let everyone connected to your office know about your relocation. These are people like your customers, the suppliers, your employees and other important parties.
  3. Once you set up the right communication plan the next thing you need to do is make a list of the tasks that will help you locate properly and assign the tasks to different individuals in the company.
  4. If you happen to move a large company, what you can do is create a separate committee that will be responsible for the allocation. This will help you achieve better organization and progress.
  5. Once you have informed your employees, you will want to set up the right expectations for them. You should be telling them what they need to do to have the company relocate efficiently.
  6. You must have decided on the new location. If you have done that you must also make sure that you know where different equipment and departments will be established. It is important that you determine the new office setup and the overall look.
  7. It’s time that you start getting moving quotes from different commercial moving service. We highly recommend you get quotes from some of the most reputable commercial moving services in your town. While you must be doing your research, you must ask for references from people you know.
  8. Earlier when we talked about third party companies, We meant contacting the different service providers. You must inform the service providers well in advance so that they can update their equipment like telephone lines, fax, internet access, postal services, etc. for the new location. Every service provider has its own process of updating the location. The team responsible for the relocation should take care of the processes as well.
  9. The commercial moving service should be given complete information about the different equipment they will need to move from one location to another. This is important because they will need to strategize the move and if they know what all things they will have to carry from your office to the new location, it will help them perfect their resource allocation.
  10. You should also set up a packing schedule so that you can pack all the equipment in your office well in advance. This will require you to purchase packing supplies and moving boxes. These are some of the resources that you can purchase from your moving company or even get it from the market. If you are moving some sensitive equipment, make sure the boxes that you are using are sturdy and once packed, don’t forget to label them accordingly.
  11. To ease the process of moving, you must prepare a map that can help people understand where the equipment will be placed in the new office. Hand over this map to your commercial moving service so that they know where to place the different items they are moving.

Wrapping Up

There you have it. We have shared a complete checklist that can come handy while moving your office. However, we highly recommend you hire professionals ott teams that can help you move your office without you having to compromise with your productivity. Have questions? Feel free to put them down in the comments section. We would love to hear from you!

Moving Mistakes
There’s no getting around it. Moving is stressful. Carting everything you own – whether across town or across the world – is an enormous undertaking.
What’s more, since most of us will only move a few times in our lives, we never have quite enough practice to get really good at it. Fortunately, there are brave men and women among us who have taken it upon themselves to master the art of the move. We’ve gathered the best of the best here to outline the most common mistakes people make when they’re moving. Read on for moving insights from experts located in New York to San Diego and make your next move the smoothest one yet!

Setting up cable can wait – don’t put off the important things

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is to book the flight on the day of the move. Somebody has to be present when movers come to load the truck. Here’s an anecdote: We had clients who booked a move, and when we came to the address they told us they are already in Europe, waiting for their things, and that we help ourselves with keys under the mat and just ship it all to them. They didn’t even sign the necessary papers needed to continue the move or sign the necessary papers! Another mistake that happened is when clients packed their passports with the rest of the things and then we had to unload the entire truck so they could find it and load it back again. – I Love Moving Many times customers wait until the last minute to pack their boxes. This is a mistake and generally results in a variety of issues:
  1. Boxes aren’t full and closed
  2. Boxes aren’t labeled
  3. There are many miscellaneous items that aren’t packed in boxes that should have been.
These issues lead to damages and inefficiencies when moving. We recommend that our customers start packing all of their boxes early on, or better yet leave it to the professionals and hire a moving company to pack all of your belongings with care. – Best of Utah Moving Co Truly, from a mover’s perspective, the vast majority of the mistakes someone can make when it comes to moving boil down to not being ready. We’ve seen all sorts of variations on this theme, from the common and mundane things like not having finished the packing or needing to decide in real-time where things are going, to the rare and strange like answering the door before getting dressed or not having a destination lined up by the time the move begins. The bottom line, you should always give yourself more time than you think you’ll need for each phase of the moving project. Outside of not being ready for the move, the biggest mistake that people make when it comes to moving has to do with trying to plan for too much to happen on move day. When you’re talking about moving an entire house, moving out of town, or both, the closer you can get to dedicating the entire day to moving, the better. Sometimes it’s unavoidable, but when we see clients schedule their move, closings on both homes, and cable set up all on the same day, we could certainly consider that to be a mistake. – Blue Whale Moving Company

Disorganization and excess (don’t forget your kids)

Regular movers know the insider tips and tricks to moving. The best tip we can give you to save on moving costs is to declutter. Most people have so much stuff they never use. Selling things we don’t use is a good way to get rid of some of the heavy or bulky items that take up space and cost money on the moving truck. At the same time, you can recoup some money that will come in handy during your move. Also, remember to keep a moving-day box handy with everything you will need first on the day you move to your new home. The box should contain bedding, and kitchen- and bathroom essentials so that you don’t have to rifle through several boxes when you’re already tired. – Nationwide Auto Transportation When you’re not moving far, it’s tempting to think that no preparation is needed. There’s no mistake like being under-prepared! You’ll save yourself time and money by doing simple things like going through junk drawers ahead of time, donating unwanted items, and emptying your refrigerator and freezer. We’ve also seen kids left behind, a lot of tears (which is okay!), and ever had a client on their 4th glass of wine? This can make things tough on moving day! Bottom line: be ready for your move, no matter how big or how small. – Golden Eagle Moving It’s all about labeling. If you don’t put the work in upfront when you’re labeling all your items, you’re going to be super confused when it comes time to unpack. Do your future self a favor and make sure your boxes are as organized as possible with labels on all outward-facing sides. Additionally – one of the worst things that can happen when you move? Not looking on the bright side. Focus your perspective on the positive: you’ll get to explore new places, create new memories, find a new favorite coffee shop, and reinvent yourself. When you readjust the way you look at your circumstances, your move can be really exciting. – VIP Transport The most common mistake we see when people are moving (long or short distance), because we really only see people when they get storage units, is when people are downsizing from a house to an apartment or just from a larger space to a smaller space, they end up with a lot of extra stuff they don’t have space for. So that’s where we come in. We always see people needing to store the extra belongings that they don’t need on a daily/weekly basis such as seasonal clothes or toys (like skis). Luckily the solution is easy. Store it with us! – Greenbox Self Storage Moving should be about making the most of the space you are going to. Avoid taking items that you no longer use or need. If stuff is broken or damaged dispose of it but if it can be used or has a function, donate it. Go through mementos and keepsakes that take up space but serve no purpose and take photographs to create a digital copy of them. We often carry with us lots of things we do not really want or need, not realizing the time, money, and energy we are wasting in the process. – Caring Transitions Don’t pack your belongings in trash bags or different size boxes. These are not stackable and take more time to place into the truck, which makes the bill higher! Spending a few bucks at Home Depot for boxes will save you a lot. – Best Movers Service

Taxidermy and mass spectrometers: Tell movers about your important items

Customers often assume that movers will take anything and everything, but as much as we’d like to, we are limited.  Some of the coolest things we HAVE moved are a 3000 lb custom-built wine fridge for which we needed a customized runway, a $500k mass spectrometer, a $1M set of speakers, and we also moved an entire museum for Glenn Beck’s show from KC to Dallas! Some of the craziest things we’ve had to turn down were a bunker full of weapons and ammo and even a family’s collection of passed relatives’ ashes. (Some policy additions were needed after this request.) We always recommend checking with your movers if you have anything out of the ordinary. – Moving Proz David Simoni at Mid Cal Moving and Storage in Stockton, California, recommends that you only choose moving companies licensed and physically located in the state of your origin address – only licensed movers will be fully insured and follow state regulations. For the most accurate pricing, make sure you look for a moving company that offers in-home surveys (though virtual surveys may now be acceptable). Never pick a mover that requires a deposit before the day of your move, and a good mover will also allow you to reserve your moving day and cancel or change dates without penalty. – Mid Cal Moving and Storage Most local moves are hourly and based on crew size. To minimize costs, customers should simplify and as possible, make it clear for the crew what needs to be boxed and moved (and to where). Review all move requirements with the crew chief at the beginning of the job so they won’t have to keep asking. The more the crew needs to ask, the longer the job. – Victory Van Corporation If you have unusual items, it really is best to be upfront immediately about them. Maybe it’s just an insanely heavy marble table, a golden statue, or a giant shoe custom made to hold your regular sized shoes. Either way, it’s best to let your crew know to be prepared so they can plan on the best way to prep and move this piece. And please: we can handle taxidermy, but no live animals. – Bookstore Movers.

Passports and toothbrushes: Don’t lose track of important items

One of the common mistakes people make when moving short distances is to forget where they placed important documents and valuables. Be sure to pack all of these separately and label them. This way when you need to find something important; you will know where to look for. Things such as medication, change of clothes for the first couple of days, passport, important documents, valuables, toiletries, etc. are to be packed and labeled separately.  It’s also recommended to carry your important documents and valuables yourself. – One Move Movers Do not tape parts to your furniture, or keys to your file cabinet to the furniture itself. More times than not, people use blue painters tape which is designed to come off. Furniture gets lifted, tilted, and frankly, jostled around, so there is a good chance the tape will fall off and the parts will fall out. Instead, get yourself a small-sized moving box and label it “parts box”. Then put labeled zip locks or wrapped paper in the box. All your parts are now in one place. – RL Relocation LLC

Whether you are expanding to a bigger office or you are moving to a modern office space to keep up with the competition, it’s cause for excitement.

However, preparing your team for an office move can be tricky. Here are some tips on how you can prepare for an office move and ensure a smooth transition to the new space

Team for an Office Move

Tips For A Office Moving:

  • Create a timeline that includes all of the essential stages of your move. To ensure the schedule is feasible, discuss the plan with all team members involved with the move. Be realistic about how much time you will need. The key is to start as early as possible.
  • Hiring movers is one of the most critical tasks of moving a business, and there are moving companies that specialize in office moves. For any move, it is important to make sure the company is reliable and that you are receiving the best service for the cost. Do your research, ask the right questions, and have the company come to your office to assess your move prior to securing the service.
  • Make sure you communicate effectively with your team about the office move. Keeping an open communication will help prepare themselves for the transition. It is not enough to just tell them about the move rather also explain why the company is moving.
  • Moving all of your office materials and equipment to another location is quite an undertaking. It is also a great opportunity to organize your current office space. You should encourage your team to efficiently and effectively pack away their files, papers, and equipment. This further develops the feeling of a new and fresh start once you arrive in the new office space.
  • Notify any customers or clients of the relocation as well as distribute updated information to help keep any downtime or business loss to a minimum.

While an office move can take weeks or months to prepare, depending on the size of your business, the hard work will eventually pay off. Starting the process early and maintaining open communication are the keys to a successful and stress free move.

With the continuous technological innovations and prevalence of consumer electronics today, how should we pack fragile and valuable items for the move?

Here Are A Few Key Factors To Keep In Mind

  • Is the item durable, like a TV remote? Simple boxes will do here. Take batteries out of all electronics and remotes so they don’t overheat and leak, and keep them together in one place. The same goes for toner cartridges and printer cartridges.
  • If the item has any glass pieces, loose components, or a display screen like that of a laptop, these items should be professionally packed.  Either ample furniture pads or bubble wrap, and proper placement within a box are recommended.
  • To keep up with the work flow and to save yourself from the most common barrier to relaxation after a move, use some twist ties to keep your chords wound and label the boxes. The hidden trick here is to make sure your chords are not tightly wound – the tighter they are, the more of a mess they will be when you unravel them.
  • Organize the boxes containing your various electronics by room and system. Be sure to label each box. Likewise, use different colored stickers to place on cords, then place the same colored sticker where the cord connects, to help make the re-setup process easier. You may also use white label stickers to mark which device the cord connects to, which will be especially helpful if there are multiple electronic devices in the room you are packing such as a living room, family room, or home office.
  • Never use newspaper to pack screens. Newsprint can get onto the screen and newspaper can easily scratch screens. Instead, use packing paper which can easily be found at your nearest moving equipment and storage rental company, home improvement supply retailer, office supply retailer, or moving company.
  • Back up important documents, photos, etc. onto the cloud. In the unfortunate event that something were to happen to your laptop or desktop computer during the move, you want to make sure that  any important files can be accessed elsewhere.

Follow these simple steps to make for a smooth transition and easy setup in your new home!

  • Plan your move at least six months in advanceCommercial moves can be very time consuming and daunting unless you follow these essential commercial moving tips. In order to prepare properly and least affect the business, it is best to begin planning early.
    1. Carefully choose a moving day. Moving can affect not only your day to day business operations, but also your finances. It is wise to carefully choose a date that will cause minimal disruption to all of your business proceedings.
    2. Designate one person to spearhead the move. Choosing one person to be in charge of the move will keep things organized and consistent. When too many people are involved, things can get confusing and affect the efficiency.
    3. Supply packing materials for every employee. Supply employees with file boxes, sharpies, packing tape and plastic zipper bags for electrical cord storage and small office supplies such as paper clips, etc and then they can pack and label the supplies. Have employees temporarily take home personal items such as picture frames and trinkets.  Make sure that you follow the above commercial moving tips and everything is labelled clearly with employee’s name, department, and contents of box.
    4. Make sure everyone and everything is insured. Review your moving company’s insurance policy carefully, paying close attention to the items covered, transportation of items, and even worker’s comp. It is important to make sure that your moving company does have worker’s comp insurance so that you are not held liable if someone were to get injured during the move.
    5. Communicate! Communicate with both your employees and your clients. You want your employees to have a clear understanding of the moving plan as well as the timeline of the move. It is also vital that you communicate the details of the move with your clients such as the new location of your business and the day(s) that you will no longer be operating in the old building, and will be operating in the new one.
    6. Create and post floor plans in the new building. It is important to have a clear floor plan posted in every room of the new building to help guide the movers to get everything to the right location and minimize lost or misplaced items. Clear floor plans and clearly labelled move notes will help make the transition into your new building as soon as possible.
