When it is time for your move, plants and decors have to be handled with care. Here below are few tips as how to move them. The One Move team rounded up some expert moving tips to give you some simple ideas to move plants and other decor items during your move.

Moving Plants

  1.   Re-pot your plant in a plastic container with sterilized potting soil several weeks prior to your move. This will allow your plants to settle in their new, temporary home.
  2.   Gather a small, sturdy box for each plant, along with plenty of packing paper/ newspaper.
  3.   Cover each plant with a plastic bag, and then tie at the base of the plant. Place the plant inside the box, then fill the box surrounding the plant with crumpled up packing paper/newspaper. Poke several holes on each side of the box to allow for air flow.
  4.   If possible, it would be ideal to move any plants with you in the cab of your vehicle to allow for sunlight, airflow, and controlled temperature.

Moving Decors

  1.   Lamp shades should be removed from their base and packed flat side down with plenty of packing paper. The base, if fragile, should be bubble wrapped and packed in a separate box.
  2.   Picture frames should be wrapped with packing paper and packed in a box with crumpled newspaper/packing paper in between each frame. Picture frames or paintings over three feet should be wrapped in a moving blanket, and then with plastic.
  3.   Oddly shaped, fragile items should be wrapped in bubble wrap. After bubble wrapping, use a box cutter to cut four even squares from a medium to large sized box. Place the bubble wrapped item on one of the square pieces, and then place another on top. Bend the cardboard to the shape of the item and secure with lots of tape. Be sure to label the item FRAGILE.
  4.   If you are questioning how to or your ability to pack an item, reach out to your consultant at One Move at 650-963-9463. We will be able to handle your fragile item and/or advice on how to prepare your item for a safe move!
