What tips should I follow for moving on a rainy day?

Moving in the rain is not fun or recommended. However, there’s not much we can do to control the weather, especially when moves are planned months in advance. Of course, we could decide to move in the summer instead of the winter or avoid the rainy season, but sometimes an unexpected downpour hits us when we least expect it. Here are some tips that will help if you happen to move in rainy season.

Use Plastic Bins Instead Of Cardboard Boxes:

Plastic boxes will provide the best possible protection to your items when moving in the rain – water cannot damage the plastic containers or seep through them to get to your belongings. They will remain safe and dry throughout the entire moving process, no matter how heavily it rains outside.

Wrap What You Can

Plastic wrap is your friend when it comes to protecting your belongings from the rain. Use plastic moving wrap and/or garbage bags and tightly wrap anything that you’re worried about getting wet to create a barrier from the rain.

Cover Furniture In Shrink Wrap:

Furniture pads may not be enough to repel water and protect furniture during a downpour.  Wrapping furniture with another layer of shrink wrap will protect the furniture from moisture.

Keep Things Slip-Proof:

Rainy days means slick driveways and sidewalks. If you are moving yourself, it is best to set up pathways from your staging area to your moving van using cardboard. If you don’t have cardboard, you can use old sheets, carpets, or rugs that won’t be missed as well.

Wipe As You Go:

Have someone on drying duty as the boxes are offloaded from the truck. A quick wipe down will definitely save you some grief if you want to keep your new house sparkling clean.

Just because it’s raining, it doesn’t mean you have to cancel your big move. Hopefully our tips will help you go through with your move, especially if you have a busy schedule.
